All of our products are manufactured with love to last a lifetime. These simple instructions will help you to take the best possible care of your Aarikka products.

Wood

As soon as possible after use, wash wooden kitchen products under running water, using washing-up liquid and a brush. Dry the product immediately after washing using a drying-up cloth. Allow it to dry in a well-ventilated position. Wood lives and breathes according to fluctuations in humidity and temperature, and over time fine cracks may appear. This is natural and characteristic of wood. Wooden products are not however suitable for use or storage in refrigerators or microwave ovens. To ensure wooden jewellery lasts longer, protect it from water and put it on after applying hairspray/perfume.

Porcelain and glass

All of our mugs and glasses are dishwasher-safe. The mugs are also safe for use in a microwave oven.

Ceramics

Ceramic products can be washed by hand or in a dishwasher. Stains are most easily removed by scrubbing with a coarse sponge and washing-up liquid. Avoid soaking the product for extended periods, especially together with strong colours.

Cork

We use only natural cork in our products.

Tricot

Aarikka’s t-shirts last a long time if washed inside-out and in accordance with the washing instructions. Use a detergent suitable for coloured laundry with no bleaching agent. After washing, straighten out the shirt to its correct measurements and hang it up to dry naturally. The seams of some of our t-shirts may twist slightly. This is because the tricot fabric used in the Aarikka t-shirts is knitted with a circular knitting machine.

Silver

Silver darkens over time and requires regular cleaning. Begin by removing loose dirt under running water. Then clean the silver using a silver-cleaning agent or a cloth specially designed for cleaning precious metals. Finally, the items should be rinsed with clean water and dried carefully.

Wool

In order for it to last, wool requires gentle treatment. Wool should always be hand-washed at a maximum temperature of 30 °C or dry-cleaned. For best results, add the detergent to the water, and allow it to dissolve completely before washing. The wool can then be placed in the water and gently squeezed. Do not scrub, stretch, or twist wool. After rinsing, most of the water can be squeezed out gently. Place the product between towels and squeeze until almost dry. Wool dries best in well-ventilated, natural conditions. It can be ironed while still damp or through a damp cloth at a maximum of 150 °C.

OUR HISTORY

It all began with buttons.

And it all started with a real need: Kaija Aarikka, then a textile arts student at the Institute of Industrial Arts in Helsinki, was unable to find any buttons to go with a dress she had designed. So she made them herself.
