Aarikka is a design and art house known for its timeless, elegant creations, characterized by round forms, iconic design, and wood. Aarikka’s foundation lies in the power of elevating, enduring design that enriches both life and culture.

Our mission is to create and preserve intriguing designs and art pieces, crafting high-quality creations that are timeless and made to last for future generations.

Aarikka was founded in 1954 by the renowned Finnish designer Kaija Aarikka and is, to this day, owned by Martinex Ltd.

SINCE 1954

“FORMS REPEAT THEMSELVES. EXPERIMENTERS CHANGE.”

The First Aarikka product was a button designed by Kaija Aarikka, made from jacaranda wood for a woolen suit. The button was followed by distinctive wooden and silver jewellery, candle holders, toys, gifts, and home decor items. Even then, Aarikka products were characterized by their use of color and originality. Kaija had a unique ability to see the beauty and authentic details of nature. Aarikka's designs were led for many years by Kaija's daughter, Pauliina Aarikka. Today, Aarikka's recognizable designs can be found in millions of homes around the world.

Finnish nature and the forest have always provided a foundation for our design. Our products are crafted using carefully selected natural materials and meticulous attention to detail. The turning fi­nish is always flawless. Meticulous craftsmanship, thoughtful details, and ­finishing are the cornerstones of our products.

Aarikka and its creations are timeless, transcending generations and eras. Time is embedded in each Aarikka piece, reflected in its materials and the flowing lines of wood. Different tree species and forest growth conditions are reflected in the varying shades of wood and the unique patterns of growth rings.

Our home products and jewellery are dyed and assembled in Finland in the hands of skilled craftsmen. Craftsmanship is an integral part of Finnish identity and culture and it is among the best in the world. It enables product development on a whole new level and helps keep Finnish handicraft traditions alive and thriving.

SUSTAINABILITY

Wooden Aarikka products are designed in Finland and crafted by hand. Since the products are assembled locally, transportation distances can be kept short. In addition to local production, the products' sustainability is influenced by favoring sustainable materials, such as wood.

We closely monitor the quality of Aarikka products. Our raw materials come from reliable and responsible suppliers, whose materials are among the ­finest in the world. For example, our leather is sourced from India, a leading country in leather production, because Indian leather is top-tier quality.

Due to our high-quality standards, we source our iconic wooden beads only from carefully selected suppliers. We know that enduring designs, carried forward through generations, add value to both the material and the craftsmanship. We value patina as it tells a personal story of time, adding a unique narrative to our designs.

VALUABLE WORK

Aarikka products are assembled by hand in Finland by home workers and in workshops. Through this process, we support the employment of socially excluded individuals and their inclusion in society.

Aarikka plays an important and empowering role for its workers. The work involves responsibility, as Aarikka demands precision in the craftsmanship, while giving workers the opportunity to earn part of their income through their work.

Additionally, home workers, for whom employment might be challenging due to various life situations, such as having young children, or who simply enjoy working with their hands, are involved in assembling the products.
